Welcome to the Historical Writings of Chris Marsden

by Chris Marsden on October 2, 2009

Over the last several years, ChrisMarsden.com has taken on several redesigns, relaunches, false restarts, and general movements that have left many writings homeless. At the time of this post, I am relaunching ChrisMarsden.com and NoMoreBox.com and have moved ALL the old posts from various places/categories to this one archive here on ChrisMarsden.com. I will be tweaking the site design and layout as time goes on and the c0mments are still open (mostly) on this section of the site, but the content, at this point, is (mostly) static. This is the (again, mostly) unedited historical writings from the first generation(s) of ChrisMarsden.com/NoMoreBox.com. It is time for the next generation to begin.

The sidebar will be updated regularly with places you can find my current writing, family news, ministry info, etc… as those sections relaunch. You can also subscribe to various feeds, twitter, my newsletter, etc… to keep up with what is going on these days.

Thanks for following. We’ll see you again soon.

Pouring a Foundation Before You Get the Final Blueprints

May 22, 2009

I am currently working on a website for a “client”. They are more than a client, as I have a personal, vested interest in the success or failure of the project, but they are a client none the less. I have been working on this site for a while now, but every time I take [...]

How Do You Rate?

January 27, 2009

I have always hated on a scale of 1-10 questions. You know the ones. “On a scale of 1 to 10, please rate the quality of service you recieved at this restaurant.” The problem with these questions is that they generally don’t give you a reference point and so everybody’s scale is different. If you [...]

7 Mac Utilities You Can't Live Without

January 26, 2009

Some utilities are just little programs you use occassionally, but some are daily necessities, like food, water, coffee, and oxygen. A couple of these are recent introductions to my Mac world and some I’ve been using forever. In fact one of these I don’t even have yet, but based on who recommended them (Merlin Mann) [...]

Thoughts on Raising Adventurous, Confident Kids

January 13, 2009

The last 10 years, on and off, have been spent leading young people into and on various adventures. We’ve done work projects, traveled to other states, traveled to other countries, done work projects in other countries and other states. I’ve challenged kids to live outside of their comfort zone, do things that are “dangerous”, and [...]

So just when I thought I was almost done

January 6, 2009

So just when I thought I was almost done with my web redesign and migration, I have slightly shifted the goal. The immediate goal is going to be migration and functionality (and it is almost done… YEAH!!!). There are still some tweaks to accomplish this goal, but we’re almost there. Next comes launching the [...]

Community from a Box

January 6, 2009

Product packaging is designed and researched by people a lot smarter than me and I don’t remotely pretend to be an expert in this particular field. By as a consumer, I have opened a few in my life. Usually, opening a new package is a rather unexciting and uneventful kind of thing. Some product packaging [...]

January 5, 2009

Blog reading has been the joy and plague of my life for the last couple years. I truly enjoying catching up with people, news and ideas from all over the world, but at times, my blogreader feels like an obligation that I am just not interested. The last couple weeks I have had the whole [...]

A Return to Text Editing and Markdown

January 1, 2009

Early in my adventures in blogging while digging into productivity sites and tools I discovered the joys of plain text and [Markdown][md]. When I found out that WordPress could decode my [Markdown][md] with a simple plugin, I was hooked. Except, I really wanted to find a tool that allowed me to write, edit, and post [...]

And 2009 Begins

January 1, 2009

It’s that time of year again. A new beginning, a fresh slate. [We've looked back](http://chrismarsden.com/a-quick-look-back-at-2008/) and reflected on the last year and we’re beginning to look forward to and plan for the new year. For much of my life, New Year’s came and went without much thought or reflection. The August to June schedule of [...]
