Extreme Mug for Extreme Coffee

by Chris Marsden on July 3, 2006

Well, I finally got mine. After many months of looking at, thinking about, and drooling over this extreme coffee mug, I finally got one as a belated Father’s Day gift (I was in Mexico on Father’s Day). Ben got one a while back, but his was red, which was one of the many things I didn’t like about the original one we saw at Starbucks.

Next week I am going to put this thing to the test. It claims to be extreme, but can it take two weeks of camp. My only complaint (with all coffee mugs) is that it is too small. I generally order a Venti (or equivalent) and it only holds 16 oz. Maybe they should make a camel back extreme. Capable of handling hot coffee and keeping it hot for several days.

@Dave – Thanks for the tip. It was good to talk to you yesterday. Hopefully you don’t sell them all on ebay, but if you decide to sell a couple, let us know so that those of us who still can’t find them locally can get their hands on one.

    Hello –

I was following this thread , and looking for somewhere that might ship internationally. It seems like contigo now offers the Extreme Mug (Vacuum) with a carabiner clip on the handle in a variety of colors directly on the website for 24.99. It’s a bit steep, but I loved mine and lost it going through London Heathrow a few years back, and have been trying to find a replacement ever since. I paid 17 pounds in a London Starbucks for mine (which is about 30 dollars these dyas, I guess)

I would normally never pay 25 bucks fora travel, mug, but this is worth it. It would keep cold beverages with ice cubes still at the end of a working day, and in winter my coffee was warm for 4-5 hours easlily. It’s truly leak proof, even when clipped onto a laptop or attache case. I’ve never owned anything that even came close to this!

Anyway, Here is the link I uncovered today, hope it will be of use for someone else looking for a mug that doesn’t want to pay 20 bucks for a used one on Ebay! :

Sharon! Thank you!!!! OMG I have had three Starbucks tumblers, all of which were stolen from me at some point (rrrrr makes me irittated just thinking about it . . . . ), but alas! I have found others just as passionate about how great these things are. One thing to mention–and I’m sure die hard already know this–but DO NOT Wash In Dishwasher!!! The little plastc ring seal, that makes these so fabulous will only get brittle and eventually loose effectiveness if exposed to the hot water in the dishwasher. I used to freak out when my roommates tried throwing my mugs in the dishwasher–trust me, if you’re willing to drop 30 bones on a mug, you might as well do everything you can to keep it working properly.

Anyway, thank you Sharon. I do admit that I liked the “Starbucks” label, but it’s much more important to have the hot stay hot and the cold cold.

It’ll be bad mojo if someone tries to snag this one.

Like every else on this blog I can’t find a replacement for my Starbucks Extreme Coffee mug — mine got ground down on the H-1 freeway on Oahu when my backpack flipped over and hit the deck — sorry for the Navy lingo.

It seems that the lids wear out faster than the mugs — maybe it’s because I’m lazy and throw it in the dishwasher.

Thanks for the link to Susan’s ebay site. I just ordered two pink ones for half price — there should be two left. Color’s a bit “politically correct” (sorry, I’m rather traditional and don’t agree with recent Iowa Supreme Court decisions) but the price is right!

Hey Carleton, glad we could help. Definitely avoid the dishwasher with these. I broke the handle off one of mine, but handwashing has kept mine going strong for several years now.

Unfortunately, the Extreme mugs on that site aren’t the vacuum ones that work so well – the foam ones give the Extreme mug a bad rap.
